Food Security

FOOD SECURITY is having enough food to FEED a POPULATION and it is crucial for sustaining the growing global population.

There are several factors that affect FOOD SECURITY:

 1.  HIGHER BIRTH RATES in some countries have led to an INCREASE in the WORLD POPULATION.

 2. Changes in DIETS in developed countries increase the demand for food imports, making some resources SCARCE.

 3. NEW PESTS and PATHOGENS can lead to crop failures, impacting food availability.

 4. ENVIRONMENTAL CHANGES (such as lack of rain fall) can affect food production, which can lead to WIDESPREAD FAMINE occurring in some countries.

 5. HIGH COSTS for AGRICULTURAL INPUTS such as seeds, machinery and livestock make it too expensive for some regions to produce food, leading to shortages.

 6. CONFLICTS in various parts of the world have arisen, which have disrupted the AVAILABILITY of food and water.
