GCSE exams in 2027 start on Monday 10 May, and the first science exam, Biology Paper 1, is on Tuesday 11 May 2027. Exams run until late June, with the contingency day on Wednesday 23 June, and results day for students is Thursday 19 August 2027. Below is every AQA science and maths date, taken from AQA's provisional timetable, plus how to plan your revision backwards from each one.
These dates are provisional, because AQA finalises the timetable in spring, but they rarely move by more than a day, so they are safe to build a revision plan around now.

All science papers are morning exams, starting at 9:00am. Triple (separate) science papers are 1h 45m. Combined Science: Trilogy papers are 1h 15m.

Notice the pattern. All three Paper 1s fall before June half term, and all three Paper 2s come after it. That half-term week is your single best block of revision time in the whole exam season, so protect it.

All three maths papers are morning exams, 1h 30m each, 80 marks each, at both Foundation and Higher tier.

Other key dates for Year 11 in 2026 to 2027
- October to December 2026. Most schools run Year 11 mocks. These set your predicted grades and, often, your tier entries.
- 7 May 2027. Deadline for most non-exam assessment (coursework) submissions.
- Wednesday 23 June 2027. The contingency day. You must stay available until this date in case an exam has to be rescheduled.
- Thursday 19 August 2027. GCSE results day.
How to plan revision backwards from these dates
The mistake most students make is revising subjects in a random order. Instead, work backwards from the timetable.
- Biology gets priority in April. It is first, on 11 May, so your Biology Paper 1 content needs to be exam-ready earliest. Start with the Biology notes, which cover every specification point in Cell Biology, Organisation, Infection and Response and Bioenergetics.
- The 11 to 17 May week is brutal. Biology P1 on the Tuesday, Maths P1 on the Friday, Chemistry P1 the following Monday. Do not plan to revise chemistry after biology is done, because there is no gap.
- Physics Paper 1 has an eight-day breathing space after Chemistry P1. That is when past-paper practice pays off most: work through the Physics notes alongside the past papers.
